Re: Humane Education
Cutchogue East Elementary School was very fortunate this past
week to receive humane education from Al LaFrance and Marilyn
Sawastynowicz in two 5th grade classes. Sharon Shine, teaching
assistant for those classes, noticed in the NFAWL newsletter that
NFAWL offers a humane education team to speak in classrooms. Though
it was last minute notice, Al and Maril were more than happy to
accommodate and to even come back a second day for a second class!
Al and Maril gave an important lesson concerning overpopulation
of cats and dogs. There are more of these animals than there are
people who want them. They encouraged the youngsters to spread
the word on the importance of spaying/neutering every cat and
dog. They presented a very informative and fun video describing
the many facets and responsibilities of owning various types of
pets. With overflowing excitement, the children had an opportunity
to hold three resident kittens of the shelter, understanding the
message that not all kittens are as fortunate as these to end
up in a shelter for adoption.
Cutchogue East is grateful to NFAWL, Al and Maril for taking
the time to come out and educate our youth about responsible pet
care. We hope to make humane education available to our students
again next year!
Sincerely,
